Etherium
Etherium is the force behind all that is mythical, and supernatural. It is believed to be the quintessential element in which fills in the gaps of the universe, and the ancestral element of the four main elements of Air, Earth, Fire, and Water. Etherium is believed to be spread throughout the world by the Ley Lines. The use of Etherium has been on the decline for all races for the past millennium or so since the first Dragon War.
What are Ley Lines?
A natural act of the formation of the cosmos - they allow mortal beings to draw upon their energy. Each leyline that intersects has a 'node' in the world - essentially, a metronome for magical flow. Very little else is understood of these leylines. It is speculated they hold some connection to the Dragons or Gods of Shinma.
Each Races stance on Etherium
Humans of the Main Continent
Long ago, human scholars of the main continent studied the thing known as Etherium. Unable to discover what exactly Etherium is, because of this, they started to spread discontent among the general human populace. They fear what they did not understand, feared the power that Etherium had, so they believed it should not be a power humans should wield.
Not too long after this, the Dragon Wars I happened. This downright caused humans to fear it. This deep-seated fear, and the need to conform to the masses of the human race, causes most humans to mentally suppress the ability to control Etherium. Thus, only 1 in 100 humans are able to express the ability to perform Etherium-based skills.

The Island Nation of Kuokazo
The inhabitants of Kuokazo see Etherium, or in their culture Qi, differently than the main continent. In their culture, the Ley lines are called Dragon Lines, the meridians of the world, in which how Qi flows, spreading life throughout the world. Using Qi is highly practiced in the Ryuju city, with having two monk monasteries on the Island. Many monks train in making mind, body, and spirit one, in reaching enlightenment. Those who express the ability to use Qi is about 1 in 50.
Elves
Elves view Etherium closely to those of Kuokazo Isles. They believe Etherium is the source of all life on Grandia Shinma, and it being the life blood of the gods, given to mortals to use and protect the land they live on. This makes the elves the most attuned with Etherium with 1 in 10 elves showing the ability to use it. Which is low compared to their past.
Dwarves
The Dwarves of the world don't care much about the magical arts. They much prefer their axes and hammers, but they do not shun the use of Etherium in their underground kingdoms. They will feel a bit of disappointment, but that would be the most, because of their strong kinship among the dwarves. Of course, some of the most renowned dwarven smiths make use of Etherium to make their amazing armaments. But because of their pride in their warriors, not many dwarves work towards working with Etherium, Only about 1 in 240 dwarves show aptitude with using Etherium.
Gnomes
They do not hate or fear Etherium. They love it. They love the results and effects that Etherium can produce. Many gnomes use Etherium in their gnomish contraptions, using it as a power source. They believe it is a tool to use for the betterment of all. Even though they believe this, the population of gnomes who can use Etherium is only about 1 in 20 gnomes, making them the second most in tuned with Etherium.
Halflings
Halflings are a carefree race, they do not care about who uses what. Whether someone is launching a fireball, or fighting with a sword and shield. Although they may show wonder and awe at the use of magic, if they do not show the capability of using Etherium. Only about 1 in 30 Halflings show aptitude in using Etherium.

Roleplaying Magic & Creating A Etherium Character
We suggest new members do not make magic-inclined characters until you know the setting. But, if you insist, we would like you to keep these things in mind while you create an Etherium/magic-using character:
(Please remember that the more information you give us and the more specific you are with what you have in mind, the easier it will be for the staff to moderate and approve the magic your character can use)
- magic is regarded with apprehension, suspicion, and fear in most places of the world - please roleplay it respectfully
- being mage-marked means your character is unable to use Etherium. This will occur if caught in Arania or Wynaria by mage-hunters. The Northern Lands tolerate Etherium users and Kuokazo.
- your character can only be good with magic if they practice or were taught
- having a mentor/teacher makes learning to control magic significantly easier
- Magic can be constantly active, but can drain your life-force
- characters that have a novice control of their magic need 5+ years of practice by themselves
- characters that have a decent control of their magic need 10+ years of practice by themselves
- characters that have an amazing control of their magic need 20+ years of practice by themselves
- characters that have mastered their control of magic need 30+ years of practice by themselves
- to be a prodigy with magic at a young age, you must have a detailed scc(Special Concept Character)
- forbidden magic only achievable by a god's blessing/curse, or someone teaches it to you
- Learning more than one school of magic is allowed, so long as the requirements are met
- Magic is taxing on the body and can end up killing you if overused - be sure to roleplay the drawbacks
- Cha-casters would be naturally gifted, some exception being able to draw the essence from the very leylines - their magic will be wild and not so refined as a pure caster, but will be less taxing
- Not everyone knows they can use Etherium and can go years without awakening the power to do so
